As a silhouette of oranges, pinks and blues cascaded across the evening sky in left field at Trum in Somerville, you could sense that a great game would ensue. The Alibrandis would not go quietly into the night, down one games to nothing in a best of three series against the Bluefish of East Boston.
It took only one lucky hop for Somerville to find it's bearings and beat the Bluefish 4-1 in front of a sparse home crowd Sunday night.
After two singles sandwiched around a bunted third strike gave Eastie runners on first second with one out, Marc Desroches broke a curve off that bounced in the dirt, allowing both runners to advance. Two pitches later, a fastball sneaked by Somerville's catcher.
East Boston's Kyle Jones broke for the plate immediately, but Somerville's short backstop created a favorable bounce and, with Desroches covering plate, he was able to slap the tag on Jones just in time to cut down the run and preserve the scoreless tie.
After a pop out to the third baseman ended the top of the third inning, a resounding "let's go!" rang from Somerville's already chirping bench, a clear sign that the Alibrandis would not let this game slip away.
East Boston's Matt Vezina had pitched well through two innings, but the third would prove to be his undoing. After a single and an error by the shortstop gave Somerville two on and no one out, a 3-2 curve missed in the dirt to load the bases for Dave Scioli.
After a chat on the mound, Vezina and his sharp curve ball faced off against Scioli and his quick bat. Somerville's short stop jumped on the second pitch he saw -- a waist-high fastball -- and deposited it high and deep over the scoreboard in left field to give his pitcher all the run support he would need on this night.
A smattering of Malden Bulldogs were in attendance as well, presumably scouting out their potential next opponent.
I know Somerville and Malden aren't the most popular topics in these parts, but who in their right mind wouldn't want to watch these two teams duel for five games?
In fact, if you're not interested in that, you can not consider your self a baseball fan.
There, I said it.

Sounds like the 2 semi-finals games were good ones last night. Any predictions on who will win it all this year now that preseason favorite Somerville is out of the playoffs?
i wanted to see a brewers/malden match up but i highly doubt it after watching the bluefish stomp on malden in the 7th inning. i am just a fan but the moves they made in the heat of the 7th made me think they either have zero pitching left, or were just not smart with thier pitching moves. Too bad because they are a very talented team.
my prediction is brewers in 3 (sorry South Boston i just cant see your pitching beating those brewers bats) and i have bluefish in 4, i dont know if the bulldogs can bounce back after that disgusting 7th inning showing-
we await chris d's response...
Malden will be fine, they had a slip up, its a five game series and they are the better team. There pitching is fine, there bullpen is fine, we just blew it the first game but thats why they give you a 5 game series. youll see the real malden team tonight when there facing adversity.

Funny post, from they to we.....what is it "they" or "we"???
they, "WE" as me being a fan of bulldogs baseball and being at the game last night.
So here it is the wait is over!
No real news East Boston is a great team! We and by WE I mean WE,will have to fight to move on .It will be a great series.

Nice comeback win for Malden last night. It looks like they didn't let game 1 get the best of them last night.
thiss is funny...
malden wins all year, runs through al thomas...and no one says a word.
thn malden looses acouple of hard fought games to a really good team and now we r done? this is a five ame series and with depth of their pen and starters, how can you count them out?
be a fan, form your own opnions.
but form logical ones.
(Bulldogs Fan)
in the top of the seven malden didnt let up a run..
and thy started a rally in the bottom of it (malden) thats not really discusting
Malden lost AGAIN!!! hahahaha
Why does this site always seem to revolve around Malden and Chris D?
I'm NOT sure who writes these comments but "we", "they", "us" do you all think your fooling someone.
You are all players!

Mucc #26 Brewers:
Just for the record....no idea who posted that Brew Crew 2008 - Somerville comment. I sent an email out to my team and no one on the Brighton Brewers posted that comment.
I am starting to think there is a rogue blogger as this is the second random post; the first one being signed "Bulldogs Baseball". Usually it is either Chris D, Del Rio or myself that comments on this blog; we all sign our names. Yes I know, we need lives but it is playoff time.
The Brighton Brewers have too much respect for the other teams in the Yawkey League and would not post stupid comments like that. All that does is make a team look like assholes. And if anyone has been paying attention to the South Boston-Brewers series, you would know South Boston is playing great ball and handed us our asses last night!
Again, NO ONE on the Brighton Brewers posted that "Brew Crew '08" comment. I just wanted to make that know. Good luck to all teams tonight!

There's been a lot of speculation in regards to where I'll be playing next year; the Yawkey League, North Shore League, Cranberry League. But I'm here to announce that I've accepted the Medford Maddogs offer that was placed before me. Coming from the Pacific Coast Baseball League I needed to find a good fit for my family and for myself. It took a little while to get the deal done but in the end who wouldn't enjoy playing with future hall of fame player's like Cunningham, Crovo, Hanley, Luongo, Maguire, and Telah Selah.
Any details about the deal can be directed to the Maddogs management. And finally I can't wait to see that 2009 championship go up for the Maddogs, time for the drought to end.
OMG........?
The words Medford HOF and Championship just don't go.
By the way you missed Glidea in your list of future HOFers...

First off let me start by saying I am so proud to be a member of the Malden Bulldogs!
As most of you know, this was my first season with the Bulldogs and they treated me like family.
I need to thank our coaches for a job well done!
Pat Spellman managed our team to the best regular season record in just Malden's second season. That speaks volumes to his abilities. He kept 25 guys happy and that's tough to do.Great job Coach and thank you.
Kevin McGovern worked wonders with the leagues best pitching staff, not to mention I never would have been able to play in the post season if he didn't take the time to tape me up. Thank you for giving me that opportunity when my season should have been over.
Dennis Bistany fixed my swing and made me a better hitter. Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks! Thank you for all the time you put in with us it was amazing.
Bill Englehardt..........YOUR FIRED! but we'd love to have you back next season. Thanks coach.
Now my teammates....... I hope I had 10% the influence on your lives that you had on mine! I looked forward to coming to the park every night. You guys always picked me up when i needed it and you all were true"TEAMMATES"! I love you all for that, thank you for excepting me and thank you for treating me like a brother!
GOOD LUCK to the Fish and The Brew Crew! Two class organization who deserve to be in the championship!

I would like to wish both East Boston and the Brighton Brewers Good luck as they both pursue the YBL Championship. It is alot of fun boys so enjoy it. You may never get this chance again so take it all in. We had a great run and I am happy to see that there will be a new Champion. I have been and will continue to go to the games as I am just as much a fan of the league as I am a coach. I love the Blogs keep them coming. It is good to see the good nautured competition between the teams and players. I wish you all the best, see you at the Ball games.
Mike Powers
Just curious why the hell a league championship is being played at Ronan Park when East Boston Stadium is wide open!!! It is an absolute JOKE that thursday night's game is at Ronan. Both teams shouldn't show!
