Speaking of Ronan Park... This photo was taken by Stefanie Burns, loyal McKay Club fan and girlfriend of the Blog Man. This was Sunday, as lightning sparked up Boston's inner harbor and rain turned Ronan's infield from clay pot to mud puddle.

The weather will figure its self out. The water will be gone eventually. It always evaporates. That's the great thing about Mother Nature. She's a catch-22 bitch, isn't she?

I just went down to Roger's Park (430pm on Tuesday 8/12)...what the hell is the deal?! The field is in perfect condition; all it needs is a rake of the infield and it is good to go. I highly doubt the city said Rogers, or any park in the brighton area is unplayable.
Prez...what is the deal with this? This is getting to be annoying and the weather isn't a factor today.

The city closed the fields today, all fields.
The parks department of Boston go to selected parks in the city that have a tendency to hold water and they make their determinations from those parks alone. Unfortunately they don't go to all the fields and we can't do any work to these fields without the possibity of losing our permits.
Dave Mckay has nothing to do with this! This is solely on the City of Boston.

All of these forfeits are brutal. Cambridge and Savin Hill have forfeited 4 games this year and West Roxbury has forfeited 2. This makes the league look bad and it hurts the teams that they are playing because it gives them one less game to have people become eligible. Something needs to be done about this.
yeah the rules state 2 foreits will result in termination from the league.....pretty cut and dry to me.

I have a feeling there will not be 17 teams in the YBL next year, at least not the 17 currently in the standings right now.
It has been said for years to try to get the amount of teams down. The powers that be are all about how the YBL looks from the outside looking in, so slim chances they reduce teams. Every year winter manager meetings to try to prevent this from happening, trying to get bad teams to commit, etc, etc.
It seems no matter what, certain teams will always have a team, even if they forfeit more than once a year, or dont go to banquet or in the devils case, forfeit a playoff game........the chances are better that there is another team added to make an even 18, instead of 4 or 5 taken away

It's just odd considering I played in a different league last night and the city of boston didn't stop us from playing on that city field last night. Usually Dave is telling us to bring our buckets, shovels and brooms down to the park to get the field ready. And I guess Mucc #26 was down at Rogers last night and the field was in great shape. Interesting that's all I will say...
Hey MUCC #26 - the YBL was ordered by the Boston Park Department - the people who own Rogers Park to STAY OFF THE FIELDS for Tuesday night! We must abide by their wishes. They give us the permits and provide us the lights for a significant discount over other men's baseball and softball programs. Also, as a City Employee and resident it is my responsibility to work with those who help us out. They would not be there for US if we just did what we wanted.
The YBL Board of Directors will be asking several existing teams to apply for re-admission to the league in 2009. Many factors enter into that decision. I do not know how many teams we will have, but it will be very difficult for teams that we have serious issues with to return next year.
YES - we have always been inclusive rather than exclusive. Some of you would never played in the league if we had not expanded from 14 to 17 teams.
BUT ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!! Teams that fail to provide enough home fields; players for the 32 game schedule; misbehave and are a general disruption to this great league will be OUT AT HOME!
YES - the Park League played last night. They played at Rice Field which is managed by Owen Carlson and the SE Baseball League. They also played at a DCR Kelly Field which is NOT A CITY FIELD!
I work for the Mayor of Boston and also work very close with the Director Parks. Mark my word - the parks were closed on Tuesday. I do not sit at home and make this stuff up as I go along. I have a 35year close affiliation with the Boston Park Department and would never have the type of cooperation I get if these people did not trust me.
Crews were not allowed to drive onto the playing surfaces to do anything on Tuesday. Ronan was over hauled for today's game and was in great condtion because it was taken care of by professionals who know what they are doing when repairing flooded fields. Players and coaches who work on flooded fields do tremendous damage to the surfaces. The agency does not want that to happen.
We would have played on Tuesday if they said we could!
